SRAS Welcomes Dr. Kasey Sweeney

Dr. Kasey Sweeney Joins Snake River Animal Shelter as Full-Time Shelter Veterinarian.

Snake River Animal Shelter (SRAS) is proud to introduce Dr. Kasey Sweeney as our new full-time Shelter Veterinarian. Dr. Sweeney is originally from Missoula, MT & pursued her undergraduate degrees at Montana State University & holds degrees in Microbiology & Animal Science. She graduated veterinary school at Washington State University with the original intention of pursuing shelter medicine & has worked with several shelters & humane societies in Colorado, Washington, & Montana. Dr. Sweeney’s experience includes pediatric care, high quality, high volume spay & neuter, general surgery, behavioral assessments, and she has managed short-term clinics for low-income families & homeless youth.

“Our goal for many years has been to recruit a veterinarian to perform onsite spay and neuter surgeries and other regular healthcare needs for our shelter pets. We’ve been fortunate to work with many talented contracted veterinarians but it was time to take our community offerings to the next level and increase the level of care that we can give to our shelter pets in the in the most efficient manner possible,” says SRAS Executive Director Michelle Ziel-Dingman. “Dr. Sweeney has the right experience, temperament, and heart for animal rescue.”

During my educational journey, I always aspired to become a shelter veterinarian and save animal lives. I also love working with pet owners and adopters to help them make good decisions about their pet’s health and look forward to leading SRAS’s expansion of community services. During my visit to Idaho Falls to tour Snake River Animal Shelter, I was impressed with the city’s natural beauty and the quality care that SRAS is providing to the pets in the shelter.
