The dog days of summer are not here yet, but at the Museum of Idaho on Monday night, dogs were the topic and the stars of the day! The Idaho Falls Animal Services were able to match four dogs from the city facility with new homes. Humane Society of the Upper Valley (HSUV), Four Paws and Bonneville Humane Society (BHS) each were able to adopt one dog out. That’s a total of seven dogs finding forever homes! Organizer Susan Waller-Scherr stated, "It's great that we have so many knowledgeable and experienced volunteers to help match people to the right animals at these events, but this is not our primary goal. We never want people making impulse decisions to adopt, and have them bounce right back into the shelter, or end up abused. We try to focus on education; teaching people about choosing the right pet for the right lifestyle, about spaying/neutering and vaccinating pets." Both Four Paws and BHS were able to place one dog in foster care until it is adopted. HSUV signed 12 spay/neuter certificates and 10 vaccination certificates. The event was held in conjunction with the Museum of Idaho "Wolf to Woof - The Story of Dogs" exhibit.
“I am so happy to see that all these groups are coming together to work for our common goal of saving animal lives. This is important work now and when the Snake River Animal Shelter is built it will be just a little easier for all of us. We're all in this together." Stated SRAS Board President and Founder, Sylvia Medina.
"It warms my heart to see so many people coming together for a greater good, and truly enjoy working together." Stated Waller-Scherr.
