Over 120 dogs together in one place- Can you imagine it?  We can, and did!  That was Snake River Animal Shelter’s 2nd Annual Mutt Strut held on September 19th at Tautphaus Park.  This year we joined with the Bark in the Park event sponsored by the Eagle Rock Kennel Club to benefit SRAS.  With 181 participants in either the 1 mile walk, 3 mile walk or 3 mile run, we were bigger and better than last year.

After the Strut, families stayed to watch demonstrations by the Idaho Falls K9 Unit, and the Upper Snake River Valley Dog Training Club in Obedience and Agility.  Veterinarians were on hand for “Ask the Vet,” Doggie blood donations (yes, they need blood too sometimes.), Mircrochipping and dog licensing.

But this wasn’t only a day for education. It was a day to enjoy being with your family and your pet, meet other dog lovers and their dogs and to have lots of fun.  Contests for owners and their pets ranged from the best kisser to bobbing for toys or hot dogs.

The Snake River Animal Shelter Raffle brought in over $1,600 and people went home with some fabulous prizes for the best friends and their family. Perhaps the best part of the day, and the most bitter sweet, was when we said good bye and thank you to the 2008 Snake River Animal Shelter mascot, Molly, and announced the 2009 mascots Raven and L.C.

See the write ups on our website to learn about Raven and L.C. In total, the combined event raised over $5,000 that will go towards building the Snake River Animal Shelter facility so that other animals like Molly, Raven and L.C. can find forever homes. Thank you to all of you who participated.  We appreciate your support!
