LC (we say, “Elsie”) is a remarkable cat who has brought many hours of joy to our family and our other pets.
LC is named Lucky Cat because of how she was rescued. About 6 years ago, I was taking a drive on the country roads near Menan. As I drove along, I saw something on the side of the road that looked like a dead kitten. I took a closer look as I passed and it seemed to move! Of course I stopped the car and got out to see if I could help it and what I saw made me think it was well beyond help at that point. The kitten was battered and bloody and didn’t even open its eyes, but it kept trying to lift its head so I knew it was alive.
I carefully brought her home, placed her in a nice comfortable box with a clean towel and some water and put her in the bedroom closet where my curious dogs would not bother her. It was well into the evening so I told myself that if she lived until morning, I would take her to the veterinarian.
Guess what? By morning she was still alive and off to the vet we went. When I got there, the doctor took one look at her and told me that if I was in the market for a kitten he had some perfectly good ones in the back that I could trade this one for. (He was kidding of course.) Turns out that LC’s right front leg was destroyed and her jaw broken. It looked like maybe she had an argument with a fan belt and lost. I took her home, gave her a safe, warm room of her own and let her get strong enough for surgery. About a month later she ended up having the leg removed and her jaw straightened out.
LC is allowed to come in the house whenever she chooses but prefers to spend most of her time outside. She is very affectionate toward people and our two large dogs. She loves to ride in and on anything that moves including me! (I have to wonder if that is how she was injured in the first place!) We warn visitors to check their vehicles before they leave in case a gorgeous, three-legged, tortoise shell kitty happens to be in there ready for a ride!
LC is delighted to be an SRAS mascot!
